As "Top Gun: Maverick" has recently proven, yearning back to older roots ain't a bad thing. But "Jurassic World Dominion" may have attempted to mix the old and the new but it never did it convincingly well. What we get is a mish-mash of tense-filled and well-made action sequences with preposterous plot devices to move its story and a protagonist survivability syndrome that rivaled even the silliest of action and sci-fi films. Unfortunately, even with its high-entertainment value, "Jurassic World Dominion" was just too silly and over-the-top for our taste.
Four years after the island of Isla Nublar has been destroyed. Dinosaurs now live alongside humans all over the world. But when genetically-modified locusts with dinosaur DNA has started to decimate the food supply, Dr. Ellie Sattler (Laura Dern) believes that the biotech company Biosyn, who has also volunteered to protect the dinosaurs, is the root for this unexplained plague. Meanwhile, Owen (Chris Pratt) and Claire (Bryce Dallas Howard) are in hiding with Maisie Lockwood (Isabella Sermon) who they believe is in grave danger from entities that want to kidnap her. When she goes missing, the adoptive parents desperately try to find her before its too late.
If we could best describe "Jurassic World Dominion", its the kind of film that you just need to turn your brain cells off completely. Just enjoy the ride and you'll probably find its epic action sequences a whole lot of entertainment to boot. If there's one thing that this film does well, it was its action. There was this one chase sequence in Malta were raptors hunted down our protagonists that just stood out and left us gripping our seats. But it was also this same sequence that shows what we hated about this film. Time and time again, our characters just knew where to go or had plot devices handed to them on a silver platter. It was as if the writers were forcing the narrative to move to where they needed it to go and tie up loose ends even if it breaks the rules of physics. And don't get us started on how invincible our characters were in this film. From crashing a plane to diving in ice cold waters, it seemed that nothing could stop them on their tracks. It is sad to say but true that in "Jurassic World Dominion", when the humans took the screen, the quality of the film just dipped down too much. If you want all-out action, this film delivers but as an end to a franchise, this was not the way to do it.
