Sacha Baron Cohen Set to Play Freddie Mercury

Queen is and always will be one of the greatest rock bands in all of history and no one defined Queen more than its lead vocalist Freddie Mercury. He was mystical, almost inhuman, when he performed. More than all the scandals he had built up during Queen's run was the fact that he can sing and dance like no one else at that time. Almost two decades after his very untimely and tragic death, we can finally see what truly happened behind the scenes. You can catch more information about the upcoming still untitled Queen biopic after the jump.

Set to star as Freddie Mercury, after month's of speculation and to no one's surprise, is Sacha Baron Cohen. The film will chronicle the beginnings of Queen up until their 1985 Live Aid performance (which is considered to be the greatest live performance ever) in Wembley Stadium. It hasn't been confirmed if the biopic will tackle Freddie's battle with HIV but to be more surprised if they do. Finally, no word yet if Sacha Baron Cohen will do the vocals himself or Freddie's voice will be used from recordings.

"Queen is one of the greatest rock bands of all time, and a music brand all unto itself. Freddie Mercury was an awe-inspiring performer, so with Sacha in the starring role, coupled with Peter's screenplay and the support of Queen, we have the perfect combination to tell the real story behind their success." Graham King of GK Films, the film's main financier, said in a statement.

What's your opinion on this? Will Sacha Baron Cohen do Freddie Mercury justice?
