Not another "Blank" Movie parody? They may have removed the "Movie" moniker but who are they kidding. Worse, when they tout that these were from the creators of "Scary Movie", "Date Movie", "Epic Movie" and "Meet the Spartans", then you know you are more or less gambling away your satisfaction. Most hated the tacky humor and the mindless and senseless way they made these parodies. Well, let us just hope that the duo of Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer actually tried to do something new this time. Read on to find out our verdict.
Becca Crane (Jenn Proske) is moving in with her father in Alaska. First she meets Jacob White (Chris Riggi), an old friend that has a total crush on her. She also meets Edward Sullen (Matt Lanter) whom she falls in love with instantly. The three are caught up in an unusual love triangle that will bring them more and more into teen angst and these issues will all collide at their impending high school prom.
"Vampires Suck" did not even try and that is its biggest problem - our initial fears have definitely been confirmed. If you watched movies from the duo of Friedberg and Seltzer, then you might as well have seen "Vampires Suck". What's really worrisome is that it seems they just don't get it - that the old, innovative formula that worked a decade ago may not work today. The movie had its moments definitely - some scenes just made us laugh. Props too that they were actually able to get the feel of the "Twilight" films. Some of the actors also looked like their counterparts from the real film - they even got the nuances of said characters. But would a few scenes of laughter really justify "Vampires Suck"? Bottom line, if you want a worry-free film that won't need any brain cells to function then this might work for you. Hopefully you get to accept you just paid to experience one though.
Rating: 1 and a half reels
Why you should watch it:
- if spoof movies are your thing as it brings nothing new to the old ways of the genre
Why you shouldn't watch it:
- if spoof movies aren't your thing as it brings nothing new to the old ways of the genre

Personally, I found it effing hilarious. So what if it had mistakes? It's a parody. :)
ReplyDeleteI Agree with this Review. I felt like i wasted money buying a ticket. There were some parts that made me chuckle but i never even got a good laugh out of it. It Also predictable if you've watched movies similar to that like scary movie.
