No matter how much negative flak the movies from the “Twilight” series get, we all know that its solid fan base would still deliver millions in the box office. The producers actually do not need to come up with a good movie. They just need to bring in the cheesy lines and the topless werewolves in the promotion to get the fans (99% of which are females) excited. Despite this, the second movie was a lot better than the first from the franchise. We couldn’t help but hope that this third offering would get even better. Let’s see if they would make the fans go even more gaga over Edward and Jacob. Find out our verdict after the jump.
Bella (Kristen Stewart) is determined to become a vampire after high school graduation to be with her vampire boyfriend Edward (Robert Pattinson) for eternity. However, this would mean she would have to say goodbye to her family, friends and her best friend werewolf, Jacob Black (Taylor Lautner) forever. The tension between Edward and Jacob intensifies but they learn to set aside their hatred for each other when they unite to fight an army of vampire newborns who is out to kill Bella. This army is formed by Victoria, a revenge-seeking vampire, who is determined to hurt Edward by killing Bella.
Compared to the first two films, “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse” appears to be the strongest. People behind the franchise may have probably corrected the mistakes they saw in the first two films. We are wonderfully glad that the ridiculously romantic lines were lessened and the humor was pushed several notches up. We are not exactly fans of the material but overall, we believe that they were able to execute it well.
The whole movie focused more on the love triangle, which was not half bad. The vampire movements and the battle scenes involving the werewolves were very good - although this is the only time wherein there was action going on in the screen. We also liked the flashbacks on which the scenes not only wove into the plot significantly but helps the audience get a deeper connection to what the protagonist of the movie is going through. Those who are not fans would surely think the whole movie was dragging and the story, pointless. Overall, we think they were able to execute the third film with the best of their abilities, with the material given to them. More than anything, two things that the movie succeeded in is making the girls squirm every time Jacob had his shirt off and delighting the Moms with Edward saying that marriage should come first before sexual intercourse.
Rating: 3.5 reels
Why you should watch it:
- scenes were as usual, breath-taking.
- the effects were impressive. Execution was good despite the few action scenes
Why you shouldn’t watch it:
- if you’re a dude, skip this one forever - unless you’re with your girlfriend
- some parts are pretty dragging, especially for the non-readers of Twilight
