The much anticipated sequel to "Twilight" is finally out and the initial figures show how it has broken box office records globally. It already has the highest grossing midnight and opening day in US and Canada’s movie history. There is no doubt that no matter what critics or movie reviews say, people will still go and watch this 2nd installment of the "Twilight series" by Stephenie Meyer. The first adaptation, "Twilight" was thought to be an inferior translation of the book. The question is have they learned enough to improve significantly on their second try? Blockbuster or not, we’re here to give our take of the film, so read on to see what we have to say.
Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart) is madly in love with her vampire boyfriend, Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson). Things seem to be going great for both until an incident in Bella’s birthday party wherein she accidentally cuts herself. Edward’s brother Jasper, attacks her upon smelling the blood. This makes Edward realize that Bella will be in danger if they’ll be together. For her safety, Edward decides to leave Bella and never to see her again. This leads to Bella being depressed for a very long time and only getting herself back on track with the help of her best friend Jacob Black (Taylor Lautner). Things get complicated once more as she finds out that Jacob is a werewolf, and he and his pack members will forever be enemies of the vampires.
First things first, "New Moon" is really not a bad adaptation of the novel. In fact, we were quite surprised that the scenes were not dragging or boring - which is usually the case for most adaptations as the writers try to squeeze as much details of the book as they can muster. The actions scenes improved significantly compared to "Twilight". The cinematography was also done beautifully. The actors were okay. We could not think of anyone more perfect to play Bella than Kristen Stewart. Taylor Lautner (and his body) definitely outshone Robert Pattinson this time around but we’re sure "Twilight" fans won’t mind this. Despite all this, "New Moon" definitely could not be considered as a movie out of the ordinary. It is an okay adaptation but beyond that, there is nothing more to it - there is a sense of normalcy to this film. We expected much more honestly and most people will have that same trail of thought. Ultimately, this makes "New Moon" a less than pleasant experience. No matter what we or hundreds of review will say, it won’t change the fact that the it will appeal to Twilight fans of all ages as there are minimal changes from the book and that is the way the followers like it.
