The Chronicles of Narnia : Prince Caspian : Movie Review

Both of us have to be honest, we never got the chance to watch the first Narnia film, "The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe". With that in mind, we actually were worried that we wouldn't get to understand the film when we watch it. Confidently, we could say, the movie is accessible to both fans of the first flick and to new fans of the film series.

The movie's plot has obviously a connection with the first with it happening right after a year from the first film's end. The film starts off in England and eventually, as we all can surmise, the kids are brought back to Narnia although soon they realize that the Narnia they knew a year ago is totally different. One year in our world equals to 1300 years in Narnia. The world they once lived in now lies in ruin. The children are then brought into the middle of the ongoing conflict between Prince Caspian and his uncle and the Telmarines and the Narnians.

Overall the film was great. The scenes and effects were just stunning and the story and plot really interesting. Even though we missed the first film, it was never really hard to get into the film plot and characters. We guess its due to the fact that most of the characters from the first film, we think, are actually dead (Who would live for 1300 years anyway?). Albeit these good notes, the film actually suffers a bit due to Peter the Magnificent. We couldn't take his cockiness and arrogance almost the first part of the film. We even wonder why he was chosen to be one of the olden kings of Narnia if he was so into himself only. We believe that the film actually failed on delivering on this part. Finally, think of Prince Caspian as a mix of Harry Potter and The Lord of the Rings. The setting of Middle Earth led by adolescent kids. A plus not is that Christians and Catholics would probably like this film due to the parallelisms it has with their beliefs, especially with Jesus Christ. We enjoyed the film throughly that we are even tempted to watch the first film on DVD.

Rating : 4 reels

Why you should watch it:
- really good plot
- the movie has a good blend of humor and seriousness
- the movie is long but not dragging
- very Christian/Catholic (a potent weapon for Harry Potter bashers)

Why you should not watch it:
- you hate cocky kings
- you're actually sick of the fantasy setting
